Copper Cable Joint Closure

Issue: Closures installed within telecommunications networks degrade over time as a result of substandard work practices and adverse environmental conditions.

Solution: To address this- Dexgreen has developed a wide range of new work and maintenance closures that meet BT specification LN 450B and have a strong track record of network performance. Key features of this solution include:

  1. Sizes: Closure selection is based on the size of the cables to be installed in the main port; however it may be appropriate to use a larger closure if the installation area allows, e.g. a 50/0.40mm cable joint can be installed in a large maintenance closure if it is installed in a large area. The closure sizes are illustrated in the table above. All closures conform to British Telecom specification LN450B.
  2. New Work Closures: The new work Openable Joint closures are designed for new build installations only. The bases of the new work Closure closures, have a series of lead-in cable entry ports placed around their outer edge, a main port to one side, which can accommodate one or two cables and auxiliary ports in the centre.
  3. Maintenance Closures: These closures are suitable for maintenance or new work on Grease Filled & Air Cored Cables. The maintenance closure bases have a main port to one side and auxiliary ports on the other. The extra large base has a series of lead-in cable entry ports placed around its outer edge. The main port in these closures is designed to house the existing cables in a cutover and leave the auxiliary ports for future requirements. During maintenance activity, all joints shall be checked for conductor insulation and connector quality as well as for the basic water sealing properties of the closure. These issues will determine whether the joint closure will be retained or replaced.
